It‘s worth mentioning that the U.S TikTok ban law came into effect on January 19, just a day after, the recently elected President, Donald Trump, took office on January 20. So, in order to allow U.S. citizens to use the social media platform, he signed an executive order that has delayed the TikTok ban by 75 days.
According to Donald Trump, the U.S government is currently negotiating with various people to acquire TikTok, or otherwise, the app’s future will remain unknown due to all the national security concerns.
But it seems that the president also signed an executive order mandating the formation of a supreme wealth fund within a year, that could be potentially used to purchase the social media platform.
The U.S government is concerned that if the TikTok social media platform continues to be owned by the Chinese ByteDance, all the U.S citizen's data has a higher potential to be misused.
Initially, free speech advocates have disputed the TikTok ban, which was rapidly passed by Congress and signed into law by former President Joe Biden. But as a response, ByteDance stated that the U.S. government has misrepresented the app’s connections with China because all the content recommendation engines along with all the user’s data are safely stored in the cloud servers that are operated by Oracle in the U.S.
Also, the parent company also stated that the decisions about content moderation for U.S. users are made in the United States.
Stay tuned for more updates, and to see when the TikTok app will be again reinstated in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store!
