All these rumors are not yet confirmed by the White House or the U.S. President himself, because if they are actually true, it will suggest that Trump is currently hesitant about the TikTok ban, which will affect more than 170 million Americans who use the TikTok social media platform both for entertainment and as a source of income.
The TikTok ban has been extended multiple times, and progress towards a TikTok deal is moving slowly. It seems that a TikTok sale was discussed back in the Spring of 2025, when TikTok was supposed to be acquired by a U.S. company, with the majority of U.S. investors, but after Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Chinese goods, this deal was slowly rejected.
Even if various U.S. representatives have a plan to discuss further arrangements with the Chinese negotiators, we should mention that a new TikTok deal is expected to be announced after September 17, which will not meet the TikTok deadline imposed by Donald Trump. So, most likely, the social media platform will receive an extended deadline again in order to finalize a deal.
The social media platform was scheduled to receive a TikTok ban on January 20, the day when Donald Trump was inaugurated as the U.S. president. Back then, TikTok suffered a 12-hour ban, while all TikTok U.S. users weren’t able to use the social media platform. But after only 12 hours, Donald Trump decided to extend the ban in order to give ByteDance a chance to sell TikTok to a U.S.-owned company, due to security concerns.
