Spotify assures their customers that this problem will not affect Apple users who want to control their volume on iOS Bluetooth Airplay Session or Android users. This change is only applied to users who are listening through Spotify Connect on nearby speakers, game consoles, smart TVs, computers, and other devices.
Beginning on September 3, Spotify Apple users across the world will be guided to use the new in-app volume control bar.
The Music streaming app stated that they made several requests to Apple, for a solution similar to what is currently provided for those who are using the Apple HomePod or Apple TV devices. In response, Apple informed Spotify that to access the technology that controls the volume on iPhone it is necessary for apps to integrate with the HomePod.
So, Spotify can’t use the same technology as Apple Music is using on iOS. The streaming app tried to point out that this situation has some differences from how companies like Google and Samsung can manage their access to similar technologies.
They are claiming that this technology was purposely degraded before it got suspended. Spotify stated that the whole experience with the iPhone volume control buttons was usually unpredictable, resulting in some bugs such as volume spikes during song listenings. It is expected that the new interface will have a more consistent control over the volume control option.
Even if the volume control feature is affecting only a part of users, it is an annoying change that will create complaints among those who are frequently using their connected devices.
We expect to see more updates and also to see if Apple will provide a solution for third-party developers!
