The Anthropic AI company comes in to compete for the integration of AI browsers, having many other competitors like Perplexity’s Comet, the upcoming OpenAI-owned browser, that might have nearly identical characteristics to Comet, and Google with its AI Gemini chatbot that made some integrations to Google Chrome.
Artificial intelligence chatbots are becoming more popular and advanced, as AI companies rapidly establish their presence across various browsers, including on Google Chrome. However, these changes can also pose various security risks.
Besides possible chatbot errors, the Anthropic AI company stated on their page that ’’Browser AI faces unique security risks, like prompt injection attacks, where malicious actors might try to trick Claude into unintended actions, such as sharing your bank information or deleting important files’’.
Anthropic announced that they created hypothetical attack scenarios for users to view and make wise decisions. Plus, the artificial intelligence chatbot can be controlled by the person who uses it. Claude requests authorization before visiting new websites, and you can remove access to certain websites at any moment from Settings. Moreover, the Anthropic AI company declared that due to their actions, the levels of prompt injections have been reduced from 23.6% to 11.2%.
After the Google Chrome antitrust case, it’s understandable why nearly every AI company wants to be featured on the web browser and even acquire it: Google might have to sell Chrome, and that would present a huge opportunity for any successful AI business. Perplexity already made a bold move earlier this August by offering to buy Chrome for $34.5 billion, followed by interest from the OpenAI CEO as well.
