Compared to the Amazon Kindle and Goodreads review departments, these divisions were significantly more important because they actively oversee the production of popular Amazon products, such as Amazon Alexa, Amazon Kindle e-readers, Amazon Echo, and even the self-driving vehicles called Amazon Zoox.
"As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs operate more efficiently, and to better align with our business roadmap, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles within the Books organization,", the assigned Amazon spokesperson stated.
It seems that Amazon CEO, Andy Jassy takes this plan seriously, and follows the goal by reducing the “excess of bureaucracy” from within the organization. So, not only does the e-commerce and tech giant lay off employees from different departments, but it also tries to lower the number of department managers.
Only in the first quarter of this year, Amazon managed to hire about 4000 employees, which is a significantly higher number if we compare it to the records from the fourth quarter of last year.
So, even if it hired this many employees, Amazon considers that it is time to remove the bureaucracy by firing employees from different divisions. For now, the services and devices units, along with the Amazon Kindle and Goodreads review departments were recently affected.
We must mention that according to the most recent records, Amazon shares registered a decrease of about 5.6%.
