About 100 employees who work in the services and devices units will be impacted by these Amazon layoffs. Even if the number is not that high compared to the previous Amazon layoffs, these employees play a significant role in the services and devices testing and analysis rounds.
When asked about this situation, the Amazon spokesperson has refused to offer additional details about the specific divisions that will be affected by the Amazon layoffs.
“As part of our ongoing work to make our teams and programs operate more efficiently, and to better align with our product roadmap, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles," the Amazon spokesperson stated.
These Amazon layoffs are probably the least significant job cuts in the last years, mostly because Amazon also cut jobs in 2023. Also in recent months, Amazon has imposed layoffs in smaller departments, including the Wondery podcast, Amazon stores, and even communications units.
Probably the most significant Amazon layoffs that happened in recent years are the 4,000 job cuts that were planned to happen between last year’s Q4 and Q1 of this year.
But since 2022, Amazon has been planning to lay off a total of 27,000 employees. These Amazon layoffs continued through the years, in order to lay off employees gradually from different departments and divisions.
Even more so, after implementing the return to office, the company also changed its corporate structure to have a significantly smaller number of managers to remove unnecessary processes within the company.
It seems that a layoff trend is becoming popular among bigger worldwide companies, because Microsoft is also planning to lay off about 6,000 employees in order to reduce some management layers.
