A standout feature is the Spotify Jam, which allows multiple users to share control of the music playback directly from their individual devices. In cars with Android Auto, users will be able to join a Spotify Jam session by tapping the new “Join” icon on the touchscreen and scanning a QR code to add songs to the playlist.
Unlike Apple Music’s SharePlay, which requires all participants to use Apple devices, Spotify Jam works across platforms, making it accessible.
This feature is expected to become available “in the coming months”, according to the company, which also said that updates to Amazon Music and YouTube Music are also on their way, as media apps on the platform have new flexibility.
Google also announced that Quick Share support is coming soon, allowing users to perform tasks like adding stops to active Google Maps routes. Even more so, the company plans to introduce passkey support to its infotainment system.
A Figma design kit released by Google for Android Auto app development revealed a preview of a new light mode theme. Although Google didn’t mention it in the official blog post, the design suggests that a light mode has been in development for some time, as reported by 9to5Google.
Browser and video apps are coming to Android Auto too, as they briefly mentioned in the same post. These features are said to work only when the car is in park.
The browser feature is currently available in beta for cars with Google built-in, and video apps are already supported on this infotainment system.
The company has also announced that support for whether apps has officially moved out of beta and is now fully available.
