Some existing and compatible Aston Martin vehicles will also get CarPlay Ultra “in the coming weeks through a software update available at local dealers.”The company also said the Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis brands have also signed up to make it compatible in their vehicles.
CarPlay Ultra also helps Apple in the field with Google, which for years has also helped automakers ship cars with an embedded version of its Android Auto operating system. Just this week, Google made public that they are bringing artificial intelligence into their Android Auto system, with the help of Gemini.
Apple has also implied that the slower release of CarPlay Ultra has also been linked to the work required to make the software fit the “unique brand and visual design philosophies” of their partner automakers. The company also reported on their press release from Thursday that they have worked in ”close collaboration” with the designers and automakers from Aston Martin. They also mentioned that users will be able to customize the “colors and wallpapers of themes to match their individual tastes.”
Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said, “iPhone users love CarPlay, and it has transformed how people connect with their vehicles. With CarPlay Ultra, together with automakers, we are reimagining the in-car experience, making it even more unified and consistent.”
He also added, “This next generation of CarPlay gives drivers a smarter, safer way to use their iPhone in the car, while deeply integrating with the car’s systems and showcasing the unique look and feel of each automaker. We are excited to kick off the rollout of CarPlay Ultra with Aston Martin — and this is just the beginning, with more automakers on the way.”
It’s an important step forward from the standard version of CarPlay, which has in the past proved to be pretty popular, according to TechCrunch.
