"It will be a chip that we will newly use...It's called the Thor chip, and it is a chip that enables advanced robotic systems development," Najwa Aaraj, the CEO of the UAW Technology Innovation Institute, stated in a recent interview.
TII is the research arm of Abu Dhabi’s Advanced Technology Research Council and is central to the UAE’s goal of becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence.
The country, a major oil exporter, has invested billions in recent years to bolster its AI sector, leveraging its strong ties with the United States to gain access to advanced technology.
The artificial intelligence technology is now spreading across the world, with many more countries interested in participating in AI development. This partnership with Nvidia can become an interesting asset for the Middle East, which has plenty of resources to invest in artificial intelligence technologies.
Nvidia is one of the most powerful companies when it comes to AI chips, with the power of manufacturing various chips that are used in different sectors and industries.
It should be mentioned that it is not known yet if this partnership is signed to be only a source for AI chips to be used in UAE industries, or if the Technology Innovation Institute and Nvidia plan to launch a device or tools powered by artificial intelligence.
