The announcement follows Meta’s integration of an AI feature in WhatsApp, a move that drew criticism from users and forced the company to respond.
Media analyst Hanna Kahlert from Media Research told BBC News that this reflects a broader trend of social media and AI increasingly merging. However, she noted that such developments don’t always reflect what users truly want.
"Users primarily still use social platforms to talk to their friends, and see their friends' updates," she also said. "Adding AI into direct messaging inherently supplants that - it reduces trust between users and distracts from the current USP."
The social platform is reportedly preparing to raise at least $1.5 billion through a bond offering on Wednesday, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to a statement posted on X, xAI said the incident was caused by an “unauthorized modification” that breached its internal policies and core values.
“We have conducted a thorough investigation and are implementing measures to enhance Grok’s transparency and reliability,” the company said.
