As the report states, the Japanese company intends to make an OpenAI investment of about $15 billion up to $25 billion in OpenAI, alongside its $15 billion funding in Stargate. The artificial intelligence company plans to distribute about $15 billion in Stargate because the SoftBank investment could cover OpenAI’s future costs.
The Stargate venture was revealed last week at the White House by the recently elected U.S. President Donald Trump, CEO of SoftBank, the CEO of OpenAI, and the Oracle Chairman.
However, not long after this announcement, DeepSeek, which was until then a hardly known startup, managed to disturb the artificial intelligence industry with its AI-free assistant, which the company claimed was developed at much lower costs compared to all U.S. competitors.
After that, the SoftBank share price dropped by about 12%, while the Nvidia giant has lost about $600 billion due to the fact that various investors consider that big investments in artificial intelligence technology are not necessary if other companies can make even more powerful AI models with much less funds.
OpenAI has been valued at about $157 billion in the recent funding round, making it part of the top valuable private countries globally. It should be mentioned that when asked about this SoftBank investment, both companies refused to give any comment.
