You should know that these two new Ray-Ban glasses features will be available first in the U.S. and Canada in the next couple of weeks. It should be mentioned that the company didn’t mention if these features will be available also for European users, but we must wait and see if the company will announce this later.
As stated in the article, the Meta company says that these Meta accessibility features will soon be available for other countries, too, but didn’t disclose any additional details about the countries or the launch date.
They can be easily activated from the device settings in the Accessibility section. There, you will find “detailed responses” that will turn on the Meta AI, especially for this kind of in-depth description of elements of the surrounding environment.
We must mention that the Meta company first established a partnership with the Be My Eyes organization in September last year when it promised to create and develop some functionalities for users who have visual impairments. Only two months later, in November, some features were launched but only for limited users in the U.S., Canada, Ireland, the UK, and Australia.
Now, the Call a Volunteer feature in partnership with the Be My Eye organization will be launched in 18 countries across the world, where the Meta AI technology is also supported.
So, this functionality is able to connect over 8 million volunteers to help Meta Glasses users.
The things are pretty simple, low-vision users only have to say “Hey Meta, Be My Eyes” and the system will automatically look for a volunteer who can help users with certain elements. Users will be able to hear the volunteers through the open-ear speakers, while the volunteers will be able to see the surrounding environment through the glasses' camera.
If you think about it, this represents a very useful feature, because not only will low-vision users be able to have assistance from other people, but everyone can contribute to having a better world with people who help each other when needed.
Stay tuned to find out more about the Meta accessibility features!
