In their press release, Mira Murati’s company states that is focused more on planning to build various products that could significantly help people work with artificial intelligence technology, and less on developing fully autonomous systems.
“We’re building a future where everyone has access to the knowledge and tools to make AI work for their unique needs and goals,”, the former OpenAI CTO stated in the press release.
It should be mentioned that Mira Murati has been working for some time on this new AI startup. She also recruited recently John Schulman, the co-founder of OpenAI to be the head of research in this development process. Along with John Schulman, Barret Zoph an ex-OpenAI leader is now the CTO of Thinking Machines Lab.
“We are building models at the frontier of capabilities in domains like science and programming. Ultimately, the most advanced models will unlock the most transformative applications and benefits, such as enabling novel scientific discoveries and engineering breakthroughs.”, Mira Murati stated in the post.
Various sources familiar with the matter have reported that John Schulman has been actively involved in collecting various specialists in Mira Murati’s team. The leader from the OpenAI special projects division, Jonathan Lachman has also decided to join the Thinking Machine Labs startup, while in total, this new AI startup has about 10 researchers and top engineers from well-known companies such as Google DeepMind, Character.AI, and OpenAI.
“We’ll focus on understanding how our systems create genuine value in the real world. “The most important breakthroughs often come from rethinking our objectives, not just optimizing existing metrics.”, as the AI startup stated in the blog post.
