It should be mentioned that those Facebook Groups, according to their admins, were not the type of group that would get their Facebook account disabled frequently, because their content and posts were not harming other users in any way.
“We’re aware of a technical error that impacted some Facebook Groups. We’re fixing things now,” Andy Stone, the Meta spokesperson, stated for TechCrunch.
We don’t know for sure the exact reason that users had their Facebook account disabled, or even their Facebook Groups, but various sources blame the artificial intelligence technology that is used to find out which accounts should be moderated or suspended. It seems that this AI model has a bug that misinterprets different social media posts and considers that some effects must be applied.
When they shared the fact that their social media accounts had been suddenly suspended, users claimed that the Meta Group had given unrelated reasons and random policy violations. For example, a user stated that the Meta Group claimed the fact that its posts were related to terrorism, which was definitely not the real reason.
But not only the smaller social media accounts, or Facebook Groups, were affected as the Meta Group suspended or moderated bigger groups with almost millions of users, which were, for some, valuable sources.
As we speak, numerous complaints are posted, especially on Reddit, because this way users can find out easily if others are also experiencing the same issues and problems with Facebook and Instagram.
According to some posts, it seems that those Facebook Groups that had a paid Meta Verified subscription were able to get help through the customer support service.
The Meta Group is not the only organization that faces these issues, as multiple users have reported issues and sudden account suspensions on Pinterest or even Tumblr. After these allegations, Pinterest made a statement and confirmed the fact that they had a problem internally, as well as Tumblr, which stated that the new content filtering system is currently in the testing phase, so users might experience different issues.
Although we are still waiting for the Meta Group to make a statement and clarify the situation.
