China as well as the European Union are exploring various options as alternatives to the EV tariffs, such as minimum price commitments from the Chinese part or some higher investments in Europe.
After a video call between the EU trade chief and the Chinese Minister of Commerce, the Commission stated that "The principals agreed that further technical negotiations would take place shortly".
The European Commission is responsible for the trade policy of the 27-nation European Union, and until now they managed to have eight rounds of technical discussions with the Chinese correspondents and there are still topics to discuss in the next negotiation rounds about EVs.
EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis and Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao, have already confirmed their dedication to finding a solution to benefit both parties which has the goal of making sure that there is a level playing field for the European market while being compatible with the World Trade Organization rules.
Two weeks ago, Chinese Commerce requested the Europeans to not discuss other separate negotiations with different companies, since these might affect the current discussions between these two. Also, the EU trade chief Valdis Dombrovskis mentioned the fact that the EU discussed with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce for importing EV cars and is not able to exclude different individual exporters of electric vehicles.
We must wait for the next EV news about the negotiations regarding EV electric tariffs.
