If users opt to “Share Item Location” of their Apple AirTag, the app will automatically create a link that can be sent to anyone they want. For those with an Apple device, the shared link will open directly into the Find My app, and they will be able to see in real-time the location of the Apple AirTag. But, for those who receive the shared link on an Android device, the link will open the mal on a webpage that shows the last known location of the lost AirTag.
It’s important to keep in mind that the shared link will expire after a week, or when the lost item will be found. What’s impressive is that users will be able to see how many people have seen their shared link. For the “Show Contact Info” option, users will be able to share their information such as their phone number and email address to be contacted by the person who found the lost AirTag.
Apple indeed had a similar feature available since September 2023, which offered the ability to share the location of an AirTag with a maximum of five people from your family or friend group, in order to keep track of various locations, of your vehicle, pets, or other items.
So, this latest update in the iOS 18.2 beta version manages to expand the existing functionalities, to let users share for a limited time the AirTag for more than five people. So, this might be a good functionality for those people who use their AirTag to track their baggage during a trip. In this way, they will be able to share the AirTag airline location with various air companies to make sure that their items will be found quickly.
