The Alaska Airlines outage was announced first on the company's Twitter account, where they apologized for the inconvenience. After just a couple of hours, on the same X (formerly Twitter account), the U.S. Alaska Airlines announced that all the system issues have been resolved, but it also advises all travelers to check their flight status, as the schedules could be delayed for the entire day.
On the FAA status page, all travelers are able to see the destinations that are or will probably be affected by this recent Alaska Airlines outage. Even more so, besides the Alaska Airlines Flights, the Horizon Flights will also experience schedule changes or cancellations.
This is not the first time Alaska Airlines has needed to keep all the flights on the ground. Not long ago, the U.S. Airline observed that the system that is responsible for calculating the weight and balance of the planes had some issues, so they needed to make sure that all the flights were safe to fly.
This happened shortly after a Boeing 737 MAX9, operated by Alaska Airlines, had an issue with one of the plane's doors, which blew off mid-flight. At that time, this event caused a lot of concern and fear among passengers.
Right now, Alaska Airlines includes in its operational fleet about 238 Boeing 737 planes, along with about 87 Embraer 175 aircraft.
Some rumors state that this system outage could be caused again by Microsoft. But, when the first major outage by CrowdStrike affected not only airlines but big companies too, Alaska Airlines was not affected by it. So, we don’t have a reason to believe that this time, the Alaska Airlines outage is caused by Microsoft.
