How did Tesla choose to show off the improvement of its driverless car technology?
The company has sent the new Robotaxi model, called Model Y SUV, directly to the new car owner's home. The Tesla Model Y car has left the factory, driven through traffic and intersections without any issues to the new car owner, completing the first “autonomous delivery” for a Tesla.
The self-driving car technology is indeed impressive considering the fact that this electric vehicle didn’t have any assistance or human passengers along the 15-mile trip.
According to the company’s statement, the electric car that was sent directly to the customer features the same technology as the new Tesla Robotaxis that were released in Austin, Texas. However, to further challenge this technology, the self-driving car was downgraded to the software currently available to all users of Full Self-Driving (Supervised). This feature requires increased attention from the driver in order to be prepared to take over anytime.
But even with this downgraded feature, the Tesla Model Y car was not assisted in any way. We don’t know for sure if this move was safe for the other drivers on the road, because that car needed a way of assistance during the 15-mile trip.
The entire trip lasted about half an hour, and during that time, the electric car was recorded inside, to demonstrate the fact that nobody was controlling the vehicle. The full trip of the Tesla Model Y electric vehicle can be found on Tesla’s YouTube channel.

It’s important to mention that Tesla is going to announce soon the Q2 figures, and most probably wants to have some increased financial results. Although it remains to be seen what these figures will look like, due to the fact that Tesla experienced a fall in car sales last year.
Autonomous electric vehicles were just a dream a few years back, and now Tesla has managed to send a completely driverless car directly to its owners based only on self-driving car technology. We must admit that this is quite impressive, and will surely evolve even more and expand to other car brands too.
Some users and citizens are still concerned about the accidents that can happen when a car has no driver. It remains to be seen how the technology will evolve.
