In one case, a robotaxi drove into a lane that was meant for oncoming traffic for almost 6 seconds. The car has pulled into an intersection in its left-turn lane with its turn signal on. After that, the steering wheel wobbled momentarily, and instead of turning, the car proceeded straight into the lane that was meant for oncoming traffic.
In another case, the car stopped suddenly, with no apparent obstruction visible in the video. The passenger was stumbling forward and had their belongings thrown to the floor. In another video, taken from a different vehicle, a robotaxi abruptly stopped twice in the middle of the street while passing police vehicles with flashing lights.
Tesla si stil however still conducting the test with human safety monitors in the front passenger seat. Another video also indicates another situation in which the safety monitor hits the button to stop the driverless car when a delivery truck in front of them starts backing up.
Philip Koopman, a Carnegie Mellon University computer engineering professor and autonomous-tech expert, said, “This is awfully early to have a bunch of videos of erratic and poor driving,”. He also added, “I was not expecting as many videos of problematic driving on the very first day,”, reported Reuters.
