However, this time, the company has submitted three new applications for the use of a more specific terminology of the “Tesla Robotaxi” phrase as it looks to begin testing in Austin, Texas, later this month. This trademark is expected to be integrated and used in reference to Tesla’s planned autonomous ride-hailing service, the related mobile app, as well as to the vehicles themselves.
In their first applications, it was mentioned that Tesla is needed to provide “fact sheets, instruction manuals, brochures, advertisements, and pertinent screenshots of the applicant’s website as it relates to the goods and/or services in the application, including any materials using the terms in the applied-for mark”.
Yet, it is unlikely that those applications will be reviewed in time for the test, as trademark applications usually take months before someone is assigned to be the “examiner” of the application.
Tesla also has applications pending for trademarks on multiple phrases, such as “Robobus”, “Robus”, and “Cyberbus”, all for the van-like concept that the company presented last October when it revealed the Cybercab prototype. Even more so, during the event, Elon Musk, the CEO of the company, referred to the vehicle they have created with the term “Robovan”. Yet, this terminology is already owned by Starship, an Estonian robotic delivery company, mentioned by TechCrunch.
