According to the YouTube statement, this transition to a single big platform divided into multiple categories is better because, since the initial launch of the Trending Page in 2015, the way trending content is searched has changed drastically. So, YouTube considers that it no longer fits the current user’s needs.
Now, of course, it is so much easier to combine all the viral videos and trending songs in just multiple categories of the same platform.
What categories can you discover on YouTube Charts?
YouTube Charts include Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Movie Trailers. If we compare these categories with just the Trending Page, they are most relevant to the current user demand, because they are divided according to the industry.
As YouTube stated, they are planning to add more categories soon.
“Along with highlighting popular content in charts, we’ll keep showing viewers the videos that we think they’ll love through personalized recommendations. This way, we can show a wider range of popular content that’s relevant, and it feels more natural to how viewers already find new videos.”, the streaming platform stated in their recent blog post.
Also if users don’t want to see only personalized content according to their viewing history, they can simply go through the Explore menu or Creator Channels. This way, they can see new content that can spark their interest.
Users are now able to discover popular content through various channels such as recommendations, comments, and search results. For those who use the Trending page to find the most popular videos, YouTube now provides the tending content through personalized algorithmic suggestions.
But the YouTube streaming platform did not forget about the content creators, because this year is focused on offering them various tools to see what trends are popular among their audience.
“The Inspiration Tab in YouTube Studio will keep giving creators personalized ideas to help them spot the next big thing for their channel,”, YouTube also stated in their post.
It’s important to know that these changes will not come into effect immediately, and are planned to be applied in the next weeks.
