“We think the audience for ChatGPT Pro will be the power users of ChatGPT — those who are already pushing the models to the limits of their capabilities on tasks like math, programming, and writing,”, as stated by a member of OpenAI’s technical staff during the live stream press conference.
It’s true that OpenAI released just a preview of the o1 reasoning model back in September, but this new generative AI version is more high-performing. So, in comparison with the initial preview version, users can now use “a faster, more powerful, and accurate reasoning model that is even better at coding and math,”, as the OpenAI spokesperson stated for TechCrunch.
It should be mentioned that in addition, the o1 reasoning model can handle image uploads now, a feature that wasn’t previously available in the September version. Also, it has been trained to offer shorter answers in order to have the fastest response time possible.
Based on the OpenAI’s internal test rounds, the new generative AI o1 model can reduce the biggest errors for important queries by up to 34% in comparison with the old version.
ChatGPT Pro subscribers will have access to an improved version of the o1, called o1 Pro Mode. OpenAI claims that this new generative AI version “uses more compute for the best answers to the hardest questions,”.
So, in order to use the o1 Pro Mode, ChatGPT Pro subscribers must manually select this option in the model picker. After that, they can ask any question they want in order to have the best answers. But, since the answers will take a little longer to be generated, ChatGPT will have a progress bar and will be able to send in-app notifications in cases when users leave the conversation bar.
ChatGPT Pro is now the most expensive plan from OpenAI, which costs ten times more than the regular ChatGPT Plus subscription. But even if it has a high price, ChatGPT Pro also includes unlimited access for GPT-4o and for Advanced Voice Mode.
It remains to be seen whether users will upgrade their existing subscription to a more expensive one with more advanced capabilities. Stay tuned for more updates!
