We don’t know for sure why Intel took this sudden decision to shut down the automotive business. But we must admit that the rivalry between companies in this sector is very tough, as every organization is actively working on different new technologies and models in order to keep up with all the industry developments.
“As we have said previously, we are refocusing on our core client and data center portfolio to strengthen our product offerings and meet the needs of our customers. As part of this work, we have decided to wind down the automotive business within our client computing group. We are committed to ensuring a smooth transition for our customers.”, the Intel spokesperson, Cory Pforzheimer, stated for TechCrunch.
It seems that now the Intel company wants to redirect the focus and the majority of its resources towards the core client and data centers in order to make sure that the product offerings are stronger and can easily address the customer’s needs
The number of employees that were affected by the Intel layoffs has not been disclosed, even though the automotive department from Intel represented a section of the Intel group. Indeed, it was probably not the most important department for the company, but it was surely an active part of the company in the automated vehicle technology, because various Intel processors have been implemented in almost 50 million electric vehicles.
Even more so, in a recent notice, the Intel company announced to its employees who were working in the manufacturing process that it plans to cut about 20% of the automotive jobs, starting next month. We don’t know for sure if all these sources and information are certainly true, but 20% represents a significant number of employees either way.
